Are You Fantastic Only In Your Own Mind

This month we will look into the word Fantastic.

Fantastic- In the late 14th century it meant existing only in imagination. It derives from old french word fantastique, the late latin word phantasticus meaning imaginary, from the greek word phantastikos meaning able to imagine, and from phantazein meaning to make visible.

So the next time we tell our children that they are doing a fantastic job we really need to rethink what we are actually telling them. When using this term we are essentially highlighting a specific thing, act, or perhaps action. This very act is intended to positively reinforce something that is tangible, so then why do we use a word that in its very nature, means imaginary. Well family that's the purpose of the Jargon section of this blog because when we know better we do better.
